3 Good Veggie Tacos: Top Picks in Silverlake & Eagle Rock

I like a good al pastor, but I also love a good veggie taco. Lucky for us, they’re finally showing up on LA menus. What’s exciting is that the newness of the veggie taco’s popularity means there’s wide open terrain for restaurants/taco trucks to experiment.

Here are a few places that seem to be inspired:

Flore Vegan—3818 West Sunset Boulevard
Flore
makes a lot of great stuff that even non-vegans are into. I like their Eastsider Taco (pictured above). I don’t always enjoy meat substitutes, but the chopped seiten really works in this taco thanks to it’s smoky flavor and the way it plays off the tangy cilantro cream. The tortilla is cooked to a slight crisp, adding a good crunch. The pico de gallo could use a little more spice, but that’s just a small strike against it.

Señor Fish—4803 Eagle Rock Blvd
I mentioned these tacos in a previous post. This is a veggie taco that leaves you completely satisfied. It’s really grubby, so you don’t feel like anything is missing. The zucchini is a good base, and the guacamole and cheese add decadence. I always drizzle on some crema from the salsa bar and load up on the salsa verde and pico de gallo.

Leo’s Taco Truck-4300 Eagle Rock Blvd.
Leo’s puts a lot of care into their veggie tacos and burritos. The beans are the focus in both, but not in a haphazard kind of way. The whole pinto beans are firm and a little spicy, so they hold their own even against guacamole, salsa and cheese. When you take them to go, the cheese melts in the most perfect of ways. Squeeze the lime on it, and ask for the salsa.

What are your favorite veggie tacos?

My favorite veggie taco and I think tacos of all time at the moment is at Hot’s Cantina. Its located in the valley but I swear to you the tacos are worth it!!! They have a different kind of pico de gallo and their hot sauce is to die for! We got through basket of chips for their pico de gallo haha. I hope you can check it out one day. Im curious if you would like it!

The potato tacos at El Atacor are AMAZING! I have developed a full on addiction. And best of all, you get 10 for only $7.50. El Atacor is on Figueroa just north of Cypress, in Cypress Park (next door to Footsie’s).

@gwenlikespin, yes I’ve had the potato tacos. Very good and very cheap.
